[Fundamental studies on combination of antibiotics; especially on pharmacokinetics. II. Combination of gentamicin and minocycline (author's transl)]

[Article in Japanese]

Aratani H, Nakatsuka M.

1. Minocycline (MNC) (10 mg/kg) and gentamicin (GM) (5 mg/kg), in combination with pre- or post-treatment, were intravenously injected to the rat or rabbit to investigate their pharmacokinetics. 2. The antibiotics in the samples were separated by the paper electrophoretic technique and their concentrations were determined by the cup thin-layer plate method using Bacillus subtilis as the test organism. 3. In the rat, the biological half life of MNC was shortened when combined with GM, and its initial level was elevated. On the other hand, the biological half life of GM was prolonged, and its initial level was decreased. Similar results were observed in the rabbit. 4. The urinary excretion rate of MNC in the rat was increased when combined with GM, while that of GM were decreased with MNC. 5. The biliary excretion rate of MNC in the rabbit was increased when combined with GM. 6. The binding rate of MNC to the serum proteins was apparently decreased when it was administered in combination with GM.

[Comparative multicenter study of 2 methods of determining sensitivity to antibiotics. Gel diffusion method and semiautomatic method in fluid ABAC medium]

[Article in French]

Susceptibility of 60 bacterial isolates to 15 antibiotics was determined by two methods in three laboratories: 48 Gram negative bacilli and 12 Staphylococci were selected because of "intermediate" susceptibility to at least one antibiotic. Results show a good correlation between the two methods: more than 90% for carbenicillin, cefazolin, cefoxitin, cefamandole, kanamycin, tobramycin, amikacin, erythromycin, pristinamycin and fusidic acid, between 80 and 90% for penicillin G, ampicillin, oxacillin, gentamicin, doxycycline, chloramphenicol, spiramycin and clindamycin, less than 80% for neomycin, tetracycline, minocycline and oleandomycin. Interpretation criteria are different in the two methods for rifampicin, colistin and cotrimoxazole. Between the three laboratories, correlation was 90,3% and 88,6% for disc diffusion method and ABAC system respectively.

[Antibiotic susceptibility of Pseudomonas aeruginosa]

[Article in Chinese]

Huang PC, Chung ST, Wu HY.

The susceptibility of 128 clinical isolates of Pseudomonas aeruginosa against amikacin, kanamycin, gentamycin, minocycline, colistin, chloramphenicol, claforan , piperacillin and carbenicillin were tested. Piperacillin, carbenicillin, amikacin and claforan are effective against at least 54% of strains tested. The susceptibilities of microorganisms to antibiotics were evaluated in different points and discussed in details.
