Fiber implantation for pattern baldness. Review of complications in forty-one patients.
Hanke CW, Bergfeld WF.
Forty-one patients who underwent one technic of fiber implantation for pattern baldness were studied. Complications were frequent and included rejection of fibers, infection, facial swelling, pain, pruritus, and scarring. In addition, patients incurred risks of carcinogenesis from deeply embedded bits of fiber and also loss of their own natural hair. Fiber implantation is an unsuccessful method of hair restoration, and its use has been discouraged by state and federal agencies.

Role of scalp reduction in the treatment of male pattern baldness.
Bell ML.
Scalp reduction applies the principle of staged excision to the alopecic area in male pattern baldness. Two to rarely five excisions are performed as outpatient office procedures under local anesthesia. The reduction greatly enhances the results obtainable by supplementary hair transplantation and may reduce or eliminate the need for it. A personal series of 30 patients is presented. Technique and expected results are illustrated. Complications and limitations of the method are discussed. Wider consideration of scalp reduction in the treatment of patients seeking hair restoration is encouraged.

[Effect of increasing loading of short-term image memory on cat behavior]
[Article in Russian]
Tsintsadze DG, Andguladze TK.
The dependence of the short-term image memory on time intervals between separate tests was studied in cats with the method of delayed reactions. Shortening of the interval from 3-5 min to 30-40 sec caused in all experimental animals a disturbance of delayed reactions to complex and visual perception of food's location; the time of approaching the food increased, emotional stress hightened, intensive scratching of the body, licking the hair and mewing appeared. The latter reactions are considered as a manifestation of the brain mechanisms of autoregulation aimed at prevention of neurosis development. The above disturbances persisted throughout the observation period and even after the restoration of the initial intervals between the tests. This permits to assume a pathogenic effect of a prolonged use of delayed responses in conditions of deficit of time provided for this brain activity.
